Manchester United are set to sell Scott McTominay and Dean Henderson in a move that could leave Ralf Rangnick and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer red-faced. The Red Devils are set to raise funds for a big-spending summer transfer window, with a striker and central midfielder at the top of Erik ten Hag’s agenda.

United need to raise funds to complete deals for the likes of Harry Kane and Mason Mount. Ten Hag could be forced to sell some of his fringe stars to fund the club’s summer business.

McTominay and Henderson are reportedly both in the firing line. The Scottish midfielder has featured prominently under Ten Hag and previous boss Rangnick, but was linked with a switch to Newcastle during the January transfer window.

Goalkeeper Henderson has spent this season on loan at Nottingham Forest. However, a thigh injury has prevented the England star from featuring since January.

The Athletic claim that both academy graduates could depart to fund a busy transfer window. It could leave former bosses Rangnick and Solskjaer red-faced over huge predictions they made about the duos’ United careers.

Towards the end of Rangnick’s ill-fated reign as caretaker manager last season, the German claimed that McTominay could be a future club captain at Old Trafford. “He is an academy boy, his energy is amazing,” the now-Austria head coach said of the midfielder.

“He now also starts scoring goals and also with some leadership skills. I wouldn’t be surprised if in a couple of years he would be the captain of this team.”

Meanwhile, Solskjaer insisted that Henderson would be the first-choice goalkeeper for United and England in the years to come. “This season has proved a great experience for him,” Solskjaer said in 2020.
