Footage has emerged showing a Russian city close to the Ukraine border being hit by explosions this morning, amid allegations of Ukrainian attacks in Russia. Unverified Russian reports say a drone struck a residential building in Krasnodar, a city in the south of Russia that is roughly a six-hour car journey from the Ukraine border.
One video, posted online by the publication Republic, shows people in a residential area running away from a blaze before a sudden flash is seen.
The Telegram channel Baza shared CCTV footage, filmed at four in the morning (Russian time), which shows a projectile moving towards a residential building.
Seconds later, there appears to be an explosion next to a building.
Witnesses told local media they heard something like the sound of a moped and then two explosions.
Krasnodar Mayor Yevgeny Naumov said a residential building and an office building were damaged but there were no casualties.
The explosions follow Russian claims that Ukraine armed forces launched attacks on Graivoron in the Belgorod region of Russia.
The town, five miles from the Ukraine border, was under fire for several hours, with four houses, a store, a car, a gas pipeline and a power line damaged, Gov. Vyacheslav Gladkov reported.
Closer to the border, a recreation centre, a shop and an uninhabited house sustained damage in the village of Glotovo. There were no casualties, according to Gladkov.
Despite the allegations of Ukrainian attacks, two Russian groups have announced their involvement.
The Freedom of Russia Legion and the Russian Volunteer Corps reportedly staged a raid over the border, taking control of Kozinka before heading towards Graivoron.
Drone attacks against Russian regions on the border with Ukraine have also been a regular occurrence since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February last year, with attacks stepping up last month.
Ilya Ponomarev, a former Russian MP and the political representative for the Legion told the Express: “The message is not for Putin, the message is for Russian elites and ordinary people.
